Call to prayer | New elections

14 days fasting and prayer for new elections

Prayer and fasting are one of the keys God has given us to release the resources of heaven as we work to establish His kingdom here on earth. Fasting and prayer remind us that we depend on the Creator and help us to tune into His Spirit so that we can be guided in His will. Fasting is perhaps the most powerful physical act a Christian can perform to show God how sincere you are about seeing change. The body weakens, but the spirit, on the other hand, becomes more alert. In this act of humility, we ask for spiritual strength to become one with God's cause. God calls us believers to align our hearts with His and to work to ensure that His will is done on earth as it is in heaven.

We will pray for our country, our government, our society and especially the new elections in politics, because we believe that Prayer brings about change. We pray for five central concerns:

  1. the election of the new federal government on 23 February 2025
  2. the promotion of unity
  3. the courage to confront division and hatred
  4. the overcoming of the spiritual dimension of the division
  5. the restoration of the reverence of God in our country

Lord, we pray for the right leadership in our country, to protect us from all harm and danger. Your word assures us in Psalm 91:4: "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."  Lord Jesus Christ, envelop our country with your divine wisdom and divine protection.

Guideline for Prayer

This prayer guide is based on God's Word and is designed to prepare you to be His intercessor, setting your heart on the Holy Spirit and praying His Holy Word over our country.

Purpose of intercessory prayer

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and holiness. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who will that all men should be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus: By whom all men of every nation, and tongue, and people, and nation, are called unto salvation through him. Now this has been witnessed to at the proper time. … Wherefore I beseech all men every where to pray, and to lift up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.” (1. Timotheus 2:1-6, 8)

Prepare your heart

“Likewise the Spirit also helps our weakness. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26)

Call to intercession

“Seek the peace of the city to which I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray for it to the Lord, for if its peace is good for you.” (Jeremia 29:7)

Repentance

"I have listened carefully, but they do not say what is right. None of them regret their wickedness and say, 'What have I done?' Each pursues his own course like a horse rushing into battle.” (Jeremiah 8:6)
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” (2 Corinthians 7:10)
“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16)
“Hear us from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, so that they may walk in the way of peace, and send rain on your land, which you have given your people as their inheritance.” (1 Kings 8:36)

Commitment to Prayer

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
“Pray in the Spirit on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and petitions. Be alert in this regard, always praying for all the Lord's people.” (Ephesians 6:18)
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist the day of evil, and having done everything, to stand. Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all kinds of prayers and petitions. Be watchful in this regard, always praying for all the Lord's people.” (Ephesians 6:12-13, 18)
